The rough surface of the tooth and root are then smoothed out (planed), providing a healthy, clean surface that makes it easier for gum tissue to reattach to the tooth.

If you address your gum disease before it becomes severe, scaling and root planing may be the only treatment you need. However, aftercare is vital to maintaining results. To keep your teeth in good shape and resist future occurrences of gum disease, you must brush and floss daily, eat a healthy diet, avoid tobacco use, and have regular dental checkups.

Perio Protect is a doctor-prescribed, patient-applied method to treat chronic gum disease. This innovative approach uses custom-fitted Perio Trays designed with a patented seal to place and hold medication where it’s most effective: at the site of infection deep below the gum line. Dr. Aaron will show you how to place a small amount of prescription medicine in each tray and design a treatment plan specifically for you, as duration and frequency vary for each patient.
